Want to be alerted to service disruptions before they are publicly announced on status pages?
We are excited to share that our Early Warning Signals feature, previously in beta, is now fully available to all StatusGator users on all plans. This long-awaited feature ensures you never miss a beat and keeps you informed of outages before a provider publicly acknowledges them on their status page.
Since its beta launch, this feature has successfully detected multiple service outages before they were officially acknowledged by each provider. Here is a sampling:
| Provider | Incident Date | Officially Acknowledged | StatusGator Notified |
|---|---|---|---|
| July 19, 2024 | 12:55 AM ET | 3 hours before | |
| July 15, 2024 | 2:02 PM ET | 4 min before | |
| July 23, 2024 | 7:14 AM ET | 17 min before | |
| July 30, 2024 | 6:38 PM ET | 16 min before | |
| July 31, 2024 | 5:42 PM ET | 6 min before | |
| August 5, 2024 | 2:46 PM ET | 8 mins before |
- CrowdStrike: Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you have probably heard about CrowdStrike — the security provider whose flawed software update took down enterprise IT around the globe. StatusGator was able to detect a major CrowdStrike outage beginning around 12:55 AM ET on July 19, 2024, at least 3 hours before Google publicly pointed the finger at CrowdStrike and before CrowdStrike themselves acknowledged the issue. During this critical window, StatusGator customers in our beta had advanced confirmation of the source of the issue.
- Athenahealth: Athenahealth, a cloud-based service for healthcare organizations offering electronic health records (EHR), medical billing, and patient engagement tools, began experiencing issues on July 15, 2024. StatusGator detected the issue at 2:02 PM ET, but the provider did not acknowledge the problem until 2:06 PM ET, four minutes later.
- WellnessLiving: On July 23, 2024, WellnessLiving, a business management software provider for health and wellness businesses, encountered service disruptions. StatusGator users were notified of the issue at 7:14 AM ET. However, the official acknowledgment from the provider came 17 minutes later at 7:32 AM ET.
- Pearson: Pearson, a global education company providing educational materials, technologies, assessments, and services, experienced issues on the same day as Ring. StatusGator was quick to detect the problem at 6:38 PM ET, with Pearson acknowledging the issue 16 minutes later at 6:54 PM ET.
- Sezzle: On July 31, 2024, Sezzle, a buy now, pay later service, began experiencing technical difficulties. StatusGator alerted users at 5:42 PM ET, and the issue was acknowledged by the provider 6 minutes later at 5:48 PM ET.
- Azure Devops: On August 5, 2024 Azure Devops, a CI/CD tool by Microsoft experienced a service outage that was detected by StatusGator 8 minutes before public acknowledgement.
Not all issues we detect are ever acknowledged by providers. Over the last several months we have identified dozens of other service disruptions that affected many users but were never published on the providers’ status pages. To reduce false positives and improve our algorithm, we encourage users to confirm whether an issue affects them by clicking Yes or No in the notification emails they receive.
Currently, Early Warning Signal Alerts are only available via email, but we are interested in supporting other channels and integrations. What channels would like us to support next? Please reach out to us and let us know!
How Early Warning Signals Work

StatusGator’s proprietary algorithm ingests thousands of data points in real time to determine if a potential outage is affecting a wide swath of users. This includes things like reported issues and the number of people interested in the status of a service. Every 60 seconds, this data is analyzed and customers monitoring the service are notified of a potential outage.
Having an issue with a service that’s not reported? You can help other teams who are experiencing the outage by promptly submitting issue reports. Your continued reports and feedback can help improve detection and ensure other teams are notified of potential disruptions. It’s a win-win for all StatusGator users!
We thank our beta testers for their valuable feedback and are eager to see this feature enhance your experience. All service monitors on all plans now have early warning signals enabled. But you can sign in and adjust your notification preferences at any time.
