We’re excited to announce a new addition to StatusGator’s robust monitoring suite: Ping Monitoring. Along with service and website monitoring, you can now set up ping monitors to check the status of your network or other critical infrastructure. This new feature gives you more ways to ensure your systems are running smoothly by adding lightweight, real-time checks of systems that are not web-based.
What is Ping monitoring?
Ping Monitoring is a method of measuring the connectivity and responsiveness of a server or network device by sending a small ICMP data packet and ensuring a response is received. It’s an efficient way to ensure your devices are reachable, and now you can easily configure these checks in StatusGator.
Customizable Ping monitoring options
With this new feature, you’ll have several configuration options to tailor the ping monitoring to your needs:
- Specify status update frequency
Choose how often you want StatusGator to check the status of your network. As with website monitors, you can choose between 1 min and 5 minute increments. The default for new monitors is 5 minutes. - Check locations
Select from multiple geographic locations to check your services. For a monitor to be considered down, all the chosen locations must return a down status. Choose the regions that make sense for your infrastructure location. - Timeout configuration
Set the maximum amount of time (in seconds) you’re willing to wait for a response before considering the ping monitor is considered down. This feature allows you to fine-tune how sensitive your monitor is. - Custom icons and descriptions
Of course, you can also set a custom icon for each monitor and optionally add a description for internal purposes under the General tab in the settings. This helps you keep track of each monitor’s role in your infrastructure at a glance.
🥳 Great news for Website monitoring: We’ve also made the timeout setting available for Website Monitors under Advanced settings, giving you even more flexibility in tracking your websites.
Get started with Ping monitoring
Ping monitoring is now available to all StatusGator users! To get started, simply head over to your Monitors page, and hit the “Add monitor” button to find the Ping monitor option.
