Introducing StatusGator’s Accessibility Conformance Report (VPAT)

At StatusGator, accessibility is a core part of how we build and deliver our product. Today, we’re sharing our latest Accessibility Conformance Report (VPAT), which reflects our ongoing commitment to creating inclusive and usable experiences for everyone.

What is a VPAT and why it matters

A Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) is a standardized document that explains how a product aligns with accessibility standards like WCAG 2.1. It is especially important for organizations in government, education, and enterprise environments that require clear documentation of accessibility support.

Our VPAT provides a detailed breakdown of how StatusGator performs against WCAG 2.1 Level A and AA criteria, along with notes on areas of full support, partial support, or non-applicability.

What we evaluated

This report covers:

  • Public status pages
  • Embeddable widgets
  • Real-world usage scenarios, including customers in K-12 environments

We used a combination of:

  • Automated testing tools such as axe DevTools and Lighthouse
  • Manual keyboard navigation testing
  • Screen reader testing using VoiceOver
  • Color contrast analysis with WebAIM tools

This layered approach helps ensure that accessibility is tested in ways that reflect real user experiences.

Where we meet WCAG standards

StatusGator supports the vast majority of WCAG 2.1 Level A and AA criteria.

Key highlights

  • Full keyboard accessibility across interactive elements
  • Proper semantic HTML structure for screen readers
  • Logical focus order and intuitive navigation
  • Strong color contrast for text and UI elements
  • Responsive layouts that preserve meaning across devices
  • Clear labels, headings, and link text

These capabilities help ensure that users can navigate without a mouse, understand content structure, and access information across devices and assistive technologies.

Thoughtful design decisions

Accessibility is also shaped by what we choose not to include:

  • No auto-playing audio or video
  • No flashing content that could trigger seizures
  • No reliance on color alone to communicate meaning

These decisions reduce friction and make the experience more predictable for all users.

Areas we are improving

Accessibility work is ongoing. While most criteria are supported, we are continuing to improve in a few areas:

  • Enhancing ARIA live region support for real-time incident updates
  • Improving non-text contrast in charts and badges
  • Increasing consistency of screen reader announcements for dynamic content

These improvements are already part of our roadmap.

Our commitment going forward

Accessibility is not a one-time effort. It requires continuous testing, iteration, and feedback.

We are committed to:

  • Ongoing accessibility testing
  • Incorporating user feedback
  • Staying aligned with evolving standards
