Monitor outages with StatusGator MCP and Claude

When a service your organization depends on stops working, you need to know whether the problem is internal or caused by a third-party provider.

Connecting StatusGator to Claude gives you a faster way to find out. You can ask Claude what is down, investigate provider incidents, review affected components, and analyze historical uptime using data from your StatusGator account.

What is MCP?

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It is a standard that lets AI assistants connect to external tools and data.

Without MCP, Claude cannot see the current monitors, incidents, or uptime history in your StatusGator account. The StatusGator MCP server provides that connection.

StatusGator continues to monitor your third-party services. Claude gives you a conversational way to explore the data.

For example, you can ask:

What is down on [Board name] right now?

Claude checks StatusGator and presents the results in a clear response.

How to connect StatusGator to Claude

You do not need an API token or custom server configuration.

1. Find StatusGator

In Claude, open Settings and select Connectors. Search for StatusGator, then select Connect.

2. Authorize the connection

Review the StatusGator account, organization, and requested access. Select Approve to connect your account.

3. Review tool permissions

Once connected, you can choose how Claude uses each StatusGator tool. You can allow a tool, require approval before it runs, or prevent Claude from using it.

StatusGator is now ready to use in your Claude conversations.

How to use StatusGator in Claude

Once connected, Claude can work with the boards, monitors, components, incidents, and historical data available in your StatusGator account.

Find out what is down

During an outage, start with a simple status check:

What is down on [Board name] right now?

For more detail, ask:

Show me all services on [Board name] that are Down or Warn. Include the latest provider message for each one.

If you manage several boards:

Check all my boards and tell me which services need attention right now. Show the most serious issues first.

These prompts give you a quick overview without opening every monitor individually.

Check a suspected provider

If users are reporting a problem with a particular service, ask Claude to check it:

Is [Provider name] having an outage right now?

What is the current status of [Provider name] on [Board name]?

Which components of [Provider name] are affected?

If the provider has many components or regions, make the question more specific:

Does the current [Provider name] incident affect [Component or region]?

Check whether [Component 1] or [Component 2] is affected by the [Provider name] outage.

This helps you focus on the services your organization actually uses.

Understand what is happening

After finding an incident, use simple follow-up questions:

When did this outage start?

What is the latest update from the provider?

What changed since the previous update?

Has the provider acknowledged the problem?

Which components are still affected?

Has the service started to recover?

You can also ask Claude for a concise overview:

Summarize the [Provider name] outage in three bullet points. Include the current status, affected components, and latest provider update.

Check what may affect your users

StatusGator can confirm that a monitored provider has an incident. Claude can help you identify which active issues may be relevant to your organization:

Which active third-party outages on [Board name] may affect customer logins?

Are any payment, authentication, or email providers on [Board name] currently having problems?

Check [Monitor group name] for outages that may affect customers.

Which active incidents on [Board name] should our support team know about?

Ask Claude to distinguish facts from possible impact:

Separate confirmed provider information from possible impact on our users.

A provider incident does not always mean your own users are affected.

Summarize an outage

Claude can organize StatusGator data into a short summary:

Summarize the active [Provider name] outage. Include the current status, affected components, start time, and latest provider update.

Explain the [Provider name] outage in plain language for our support team.

Summarize all active third-party outages on [Board name]. Show the most serious issues first.

Create a shift handoff covering the third-party incidents that are still active.

Review the result before sharing it with your team or customers.

Review vendor reliability

Claude can also help answer questions about historical uptime:

Which services on [Board name] had the most downtime during the last 90 days?

Which provider had the most incidents last month?

Compare the uptime of [Provider 1] and [Provider 2] during the last six months.

Has [Provider name] become less reliable during the last three months?

Which providers on [Board name] failed to meet 99.9% uptime last quarter?

When comparing reliability, ask Claude to exclude test monitors, maintenance events, stale custom incidents, and manual overrides.

Tips for better results

  • Include the board name when possible.
  • Name the provider, component, or monitor group you want to check.
  • Add a time range when asking about outage history.
  • Ask for the latest provider message and affected components.
  • Ask Claude to separate confirmed facts from possible impact.
  • Exclude test monitors and manual overrides from reliability comparisons.
  • Verify important details before sharing them externally.

Start monitoring outages in Claude

Once StatusGator is connected, start with:

Check my StatusGator boards and tell me what needs attention right now.

From there, you can investigate a provider, review affected components, understand what changed, summarize an outage, or compare historical reliability without checking every provider status page manually.
