Shopify outage affects stores, admin panels, and APIs on June 3, 2026

On June 3, 2026, Shopify experienced a widespread service disruption that affected merchants and customers across multiple regions. Users reported storefront failures, admin dashboard issues, API connectivity problems, and authentication errors that disrupted ecommerce operations for several hours.

While the outage did not affect every Shopify customer, reports quickly began arriving from around the world, indicating a significant platform issue. StatusGator detected the problem early through its Early Warning Signals system, alerting customers 16 minutes before Shopify officially acknowledged the incident.

This outage demonstrates how real-world user reports can reveal emerging service disruptions before official status pages are updated.

Timeline

13:07 UTC
First outage reports begin arriving at StatusGator from Shopify users. Reports include storefront failures, checkout issues, admin access problems, API connectivity errors, and messages such as “store does not exist.”

13:11 UTC
StatusGator’s Early Warning Signals system detects an unusual spike in outage reports and issues an alert.

13:27 UTC
Shopify posts its first status page update, stating:

“Merchants may experience issues when trying to access the Shopify admin and Retail POS. Customers may experience issues with accessing storefronts and checkouts. Access to Support also impacted.”

At this point, StatusGator had already been receiving reports for 20 minutes and had alerted customers 16 minutes earlier.

13:45 UTC
Shopify publishes a follow-up update:

“We are investigating and will keep you updated.”

Reports continue flowing into StatusGator from merchants across multiple countries.

14:37 UTC
Shopify identifies the underlying problem and begins mitigation efforts:

“We’ve identified the problem and are seeing recovery from our mitigation efforts.”

15:31 UTC
Shopify moves the incident into a monitoring phase:

“This issue has been resolved and is being monitored.”

While recovery is underway, some users continue reporting issues.

16:38 UTC
Shopify provides another monitoring update and notes that it continues to watch the platform closely.

18:00 UTC
Shopify states it continues monitoring and will share additional information if necessary.

19:13 UTC
Shopify publishes its final update:

“This issue has been resolved, and we are continuing to monitor.”

Impact

The outage affected multiple parts of the Shopify platform, including:

  • Online storefronts
  • Shopify Admin
  • APIs and integrations
  • Authentication services
  • Order management workflows
  • Shopify CLI tools

Many users reported intermittent failures, making the incident especially difficult to diagnose. Some merchants experienced complete outages while others encountered partial functionality issues.

Outage reports were received from users in countries including:

  • United States
  • Canada
  • United Kingdom
  • Germany
  • Ireland
  • Denmark
  • Portugal
  • Morocco
  • Bulgaria
  • Japan
  • Turkey

The geographic spread suggested a widespread platform issue rather than an isolated regional problem.

What users reported

Some of the earliest reports received by StatusGator included:

“I can’t open an order.”

“Website not shown.”

“Admin and customer facing all down.”

“Cannot run Shopify CLI tools, can’t connect to store.”

“this store does not exist”

“backend not loading white page, intermittent.”

“Issues with admin on multiple sites. Several stores ‘not found’ for customers.”

As the incident continued, additional users reported similar symptoms:

“Store Does Exist Errors on both our front end Shopify websites, I seem to be able to access admin on back Ok though.”

“It’s not working!!”

These reports show how the outage impacted multiple customer workflows simultaneously, from storefront availability to backend administration and developer tools.

StatusGator insights

This incident highlights one of the biggest challenges organizations face during third-party outages: official status pages often lag behind real-world impact.

In this case:

  • First user reports arrived at 13:07 UTC
  • StatusGator generated an Early Warning Signals alert at 13:11 UTC
  • Shopify officially acknowledged the issue at 13:27 UTC

That provided approximately 16 minutes of additional visibility for StatusGator users.

The outage also demonstrates the value of crowdsourced outage intelligence. Because the issue affected users differently, it may not have been immediately obvious from any single report. By aggregating reports across multiple regions and customer environments, StatusGator was able to identify a meaningful pattern before official confirmation was available.

Additional outage tracking resources

For organizations that depend on Shopify, these resources provide additional visibility into service reliability and ongoing incidents:

These tools can help teams understand historical reliability trends and monitor regional outage activity.

Lessons learned

Partial outages can still have major business impact

Not every Shopify customer experienced the same symptoms, but the disruption was widespread enough to affect merchants across multiple countries and workflows.

User reports often reveal incidents before status pages

The earliest warning signs came directly from affected users. Monitoring user-reported issues can provide valuable context before providers complete their internal investigations.

Vendor acknowledgments may take time

Providers often need time to verify incidents and assess impact before publishing updates. During that gap, businesses relying solely on official communications may be operating with incomplete information.

Early detection improves incident response

The earlier teams know a third-party service is experiencing problems, the faster they can communicate with customers, reduce troubleshooting time, and make informed operational decisions.

Stay ahead of outages with StatusGator

Third-party outages can impact your business long before an official incident appears on a vendor’s status page.

StatusGator’s Early Warning Signals help teams detect emerging incidents using real-time outage intelligence, giving you valuable time to respond before providers acknowledge a problem.
