Frequently Asked Questions
Where does StatusGator get its data for its status page monitoring?
StatusGator gets the official status data from each company’s official status page. Status pages are published by thousands of vendors. These pages communicate service statuses to users. StatusGator relays this data into a status page. This ensures that the data we aggregate is the official, published incident information.
How does StatusGator aggregate status pages for all-in-one monitoring?
StatusGator uses three methods to collect status data from official status pages. These methods are web scraping, documented APIs, and undocumented APIs. We use proprietary technology to collect and normalize the data from more than 4,000 vendors. Our platform constantly monitors and automatically detects outages. This ensures accurate, up-to-date information no matter how often a status page changes.
What do the different statuses on the status page monitoring mean?
- [ warn ] – A minor incident as indicated by the status page. Usually, these incidents are listed in yellow or orange on a vendor’s status page.
- [ down ] – A major incident as indicated by the status page. Typically these incidents are listed in red on a service’s status page.
- [ maintenance ] – Scheduled, proactive maintenance as published on the status page. Sometimes these have no impact but are published for informational purposes.
Can any service be monitored on a status page by StatusGator?
StatusGator can aggregate the status of any cloud vendor using their public, official status page. If the service does not publish a status page, then we cannot aggregate their official status. If their status page is only available behind a login, we currently cannot support aggregating their data due to security reasons. Otherwise, we are happy to add any service you need. Just reach out to us and let us know today!
How often does StatusGator fetch statuses?
StatusGator monitors and collects the status of apps and service providers from their official status page every 5 minutes. This ensures changes are ingested into the status page on time and displayed in real time. This ensures accurate, up-to-date information.
Can I monitor specific regions of service availability?
Absolutely! StatusGator supports a critical feature that many status pages do not. StatusGator can filter to specific components of a given service. For many services, a component can be a region or a product. If you only use certain products, regions, or features of a given service, you can use component filters too. This limits your notifications to only those that affect the components your team uses.
What is a public status page monitoring software?
A public status page monitoring software is a service that aggregates and displays the current status of different services as a status page. There are many software out there, all with different features. However, the main feature of this software is to monitor services to establish service status. This keeps users informed by stating if they are operational, experiencing issues, or experiencing outages. StatusGator is a status page monitoring software, but also has unique features. When compared to other providers, StatusGator has third-party monitoring, built-in website monitoring, customization features, and more.
What is a status page and why do I need it?
A status page is a page on your website dedicated to communicating service status. Whatever services you rely on, your status page communicates whether they are up, down, undergoing maintenance, or experiencing issues. Status pages are for users to easily find out the status of their services. With StatusGator status page monitoring, the status of all your services is on one unified page.
What are the types of status pages?
Most status pages are either public or private. Public status pages are available to any user who wishes to see updates or service status. On the other hand, private pages are typically for DevOps or internal teams. These have limited access and are generally not available to customers or public clients. Status pages can also be audience-specific. These pages provide a targeted approach to ensure your status page is visible to a specific audience.
Not every status page provider offers this. StatusGator has plans for public, private, and audience-specific pages so you can choose what works for you.
How can I customize the status pages?
With StatusGator, you have a customization toolkit ready to use to tailor your status page how you want. This can be to match your brand or identity. Typically, matching your status page colors and logo is a great way to customize your status page and tailor it to your brand.
