Details

Following on from the below works that have just been completed, engineers will be completing an additional round of upgrades to our Equinix SY4 infrastructure. Outage per-server is expected to be similar in length to this weekend’s window, however we’re unable to provide fixed time-frames due to the nature of these major works.

This will see us introduce additional redundancy, new fibre optic links and an overhauled back-up platform. We’re looking forward to continuing to better our service to you, and welcome any feedback you may have.

Maintenance works at Equinix SY4

Details

Engineers will be performing maintenance across all shared hardware within our Equinix SY4 PoP. This will involve power-cycling servers one-by-one to complete a series of upgrades, verifying the successful completion of each upgrade round, and then a full set of system tests before returning each server back to active service.

During this maintenance window, intermittent disruption to service will be experienced. Each server is estimated to be offline for a maximum of 30 minutes, however the time taken could be less or more depending on a variety of factors. If you’re a managed client, you will have the details of our Australian NOC on-hand.

If you currently have DRAC/ILO/OOB access to your server, note that you will receive updated details following these works with updated VPN access details. All out-of-band access is being updated during these works.

Please let our team know if you’ve any queries about these works. Tickets raised during the works will be seen to ASAP, however only critical tickets will receive priority responses due to the high-impact nature of the works and the out-of-hours weekend timing that we’ve selected in order to minimise the impact to our clients.

These works form part of our 2019 major upgrades of which are due for completion in August/September.

IPv4/v6 updates, VM migrations, minor hardware works

Details

During this maintenance window, we will be performing the following upgrades at Equinix SY4:

Shifting from the 103.18.111.0/24 space to our 103.127.162.0/23 address space
Shifting from the /64s we have within 2407:e700::/32 to our 2404:2440::/32 space
Moving shared hosting and customer virtual servers over to new Dell host nodes
Replacing a secondary switch with a Brocade in-line with our current upgrades
** This will finalise our shift from Cisco networking equipment over to Brocade
Introducing another level of network redundancy; increasing IPv4/v6 functionality
Progressing with our transition from 800GB SSDs to 1.6TB across all shared storage
** The SSD product line remains within the Intel Data Centre SSD range for reliability

VPS customers will be advised of their old and new IPv4/v6 addresses, and server/colocation customers will be advised of the range transition plan and how they should look to migrate over (including timeframes).

All necessary testing has been completed ahead of these works taking place. We will be scheduling the final batch of 201819 upgrades at our Equinix SY4 PoP in for late April following the completion of these works.

Transition to our own IPv4 & v6 IP prefixes

Thank you for your patience throughout the various major works that we’re performing at the moment.

Due to the extensive nature of the current works, the IP transition has been delayed but it’s finally happening.

Our prefixes (assigned to INKSYSTEMS-AU):
IPv4: 103.127.162.0/23
IPv6: 2404:2440::/32

We have completed testing of the new prefixes, and they are confirmed to be working correctly
Where customers are using external DNS for their domain, we’ll email you the relevant IP change
Changes will be made one server at a time, with each being tested from an external system to verify
Our old IP space (that we lease from our data centre provider) will remain online as a roll-back option
Reverse DNS (PTR) records for customers’ static and server IP addresses will be retained and checked
The changes will be made on the Friday evening to allow the weekend for DNS updates to propagate

About Our Ink Systems Status Page Integration

Ink Systems is a service that StatusGator has been monitoring since October 2018. Over the past over 5 years, we have collected data on on more than 17 outages that affected Ink Systems users.
