Datacenter Cooling Event - Southeast Asia

Details

Impact statement: Starting around 20:19 UTC on 7 February 2023, a utility power surge in the Southeast Asia region tripped a subset of the chiller units for one datacenter offline. While working to restore the chiller units, temperatures in the datacenter increased so we have proactively powered down a small subset of selected compute and storage scale units, to avoid damage to hardware and reduce cooling system load. All impacted storage and compute scale units are in the same datacenter, within one of the region’s three Availability Zones (AZs). Multiple downstream services have been identified as impacted.
Datacenter teams are continuing work to bring the impacted chiller units back online.
Customers using services that are zonally-aware may consider failing out of the impacted zone, physical zone AZ-03. Note that physical zones are mapped to logical zones in your Azure subscription, Refer to: https://learn.microsoft.com/rest/api/resources/subscriptions/check-zone-peers.

Message

Storage - West Europe - Continuing to Validate Recovery

Details

Impact Statement: Starting at 07:44 UTC on 18 Jan 2023, a subset of customers using Storage in West Europe may experience higher than expected latency, timeouts or HTTP 500 errors when accessing data stored on Storage accounts hosted in this region. Additional services with dependencies on storage may also experience impact.
Current Status: We have determined that a subset of racks in a storage scale unit, hosted in one of the region datacenter experienced a drop in availability and may have rebooted. Our telemetry is showing that a power event impacted the said racks (impacting storage and network resources in the racks). Following the power event, most impacted resources auto-recovered through their normal recovery mechanisms. However, some resources required manual intervention to fully recover. Most customers should already be seeing signs of recovery and we are working on recovering the remaining impacted resources, these efforts are progressing, and we expect full recovery to be achieved within the next 90 minutes. An update will be provided within 60 minutes, or as events warrant.

About Our Azure Blueprints Status Page Integration

Azure Blueprints is a Cloud Infrastructure solution that StatusGator has been monitoring since March 2015. Over the past about 8 years, we have collected data on on more than 1,717 outages that affected Azure Blueprints users. When Azure Blueprints publishes downtime on their status page, they do so across 5,149 components and 61 groups using 3 different statuses: up, warn, and down which we use to provide granular uptime metrics and notifications.

More than 2,000 StatusGator users monitor Azure Blueprints to get notified when it's down or has an outage. This makes it one of the most popular cloud infrastructure services monitored on our platform. We've sent more than 153,600 notifications to our users about Azure Blueprints incidents, providing transparency and peace of mind. You can get alerts by signing up for a free StatusGator account.

If Azure Blueprints is having system outages or experiencing other critical issues, red down notifications appear on the status page. In most cases, it means that core functions are not working properly, or there is some other serious customer-impacting event underway.

Warn notifications are used when Azure Blueprints is undergoing a non-critical issue like minor service issues, performance degradation, non-core bugs, capacity issues, or problems affecting a small number of users.

Azure Blueprints does not post separate notifications for planned maintenance work so we are unable to send notifications when maintenance windows begin. If you need Azure Blueprints maintenance notifications, please email us.

Azure Blueprints does not publish a feed of proactive maintenance events on their status page at this time. If they do, be sure to let us know and we'll aggregate Azure Blueprints maintenance events into your unified calendar.

When Azure Blueprints posts issues on their status page, we collect the main headline message and include that brief information or overview in notifications to StatusGator subscribers.

When Azure Blueprints has outages or other service-impacting events on their status page, we pull down the detailed informational updates and include them in notifications. These messages often include the current details about how the problem is being mitigated, or when the next update will occur.

Because Azure Blueprints has several components, each with their individual statuses, StatusGator can differentiate the status of each component in our notifications to you. This means, you can filter your status page notifications based on the services, regions, or components you utilize. This is an essential feature for complex services with many components or services spread out across many regions.
