Case Study: How event planning SaaS Rock Paper Coin monitors integrations with StatusGator

Intro

Welcome to StatusGator case study series, where we bring you firsthand accounts from our valued customers, showcasing how StatusGator provides significant business impact in a wide variety of use cases. In this series, we’re excited to present the experiences of industry leaders like Elizabeth Sheils, Co-Founder and CEO of Rock Paper Coin, as they navigate the challenges of their respective industries with StatusGator as their trusted ally.

Summary

In the following post, we’ll delve into the specifics of how StatusGator has been integrated into our clients’ workflows, the challenges it has helped them overcome, and the tangible advantages they’ve gained. Through these conversations, we aim to offer you valuable insights into how StatusGator can enhance your own operations.

Overview and Challenges

Rock Paper Coin is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) company that specializes in providing digital solutions for the event and wedding industry. Launched in 2019, Rock Paper Coin offers a suite of tools designed to streamline and simplify the booking and planning of events, particularly weddings. These tools include features for contract management, invoicing, payments, and communication, all tailored to meet the unique needs of event professionals and their clients.

Like most modern software tools, Rock Paper Coin depends on multiple third-party services to stay up and running. Specifically, they have integrations with a range of partners and external tools that allow them to bolster their platform’s capabilities. Although use third-party integrations can help build out capabilities quickly, software companies become dependent on those providers’ reliability. The status of third-party providers is a common blind-spot for SaaS companies — a key challenge that StatusGator solves.

Rock Paper Coin noticed that during instances when partner services encountered outages, they lacked the means to promptly detect issues or inform customers. It was this gap that led them to find a monitoring solution. StatusGator’s long history and industry reputation was the key driver of their decision to adopt it as their SaaS monitoring tool.

Implementation

After deciding to move forward with StatusGator, the implementation process for Rock Paper Coin was straightforward. Within a few minutes, they were able to build a board that monitors all their third-party services. For each service, they configured component filters that ensured their would only get notified about the parts of the partner service that were relevant to their integration.

As part of their monitoring configuration process, Rock Paper Coin found several services that were not yet monitored by StatusGator and they submitted support requests to add them. StatusGator aims to add all requested services within 3 business days and often adds them much sooner. In this case, we added each service to the StatusGator platform within a few minutes of the request.

To complete their board configuration, Rock Paper Coin configured website monitors for their application and marketing sites to ensure they were notified of any outages. For Rock Paper Coin, immediacy of notification was paramount. StatusGator’s SMS notifications proved to be a valuable way they could be quickly notified of critical outages, day or night. Plus, the StatusGator Slack app is able to notify them directly where their team already congregates.

Lastly, with a few clicks, Rock Paper Coin configured their status page, a central place for their team to see the status of all their systems.

Impact

The Rock Paper Coin team speaks highly of the impact StatusGator provided to their technical operations and customer support:

StatusGator has been a game-changer for us. Before implementing, we were constantly flying blind whenever our partner sites went down.

Elizabeth Sheils, Co-Founder and CEO of Rock Paper Coin

The introduction of StatusGator into Rock Paper Coin’s operations has been transformative. Prior to this, the team often grappled with a lack of visibility into the status of their partner sites, a challenge that is not uncommon in the SaaS landscape. This shift, however, was not just about problem-solving. It was a proactive step towards operational excellence and customer transparency.

With StatusGator, the Rock Paper Coin team is no longer reacting to outages after the fact. Instead, they are equipped with the tools to anticipate and mitigate potential issues before they impact customers, enhancing overall reliability and customer satisfaction.

Outcomes:

Rock Paper Coin’s integration of StatusGator yielded tangible benefits across their operations:

  1. Real-Time Updates: With StatusGator’s notifications feature, Rock Paper Coin gained real-time updates on partner site outages. This enabled them to promptly detect and address issues, minimizing downtime and ensuring uninterrupted service for their customers.
  2. Improved Communication: By leveraging StatusGator’s status page feature, Rock Paper Coin enhanced communication with their customers. They could now provide timely updates on site status, keeping customers informed and alleviating concerns during outages.
  3. Enhanced Workflow: StatusGator simplified Rock Paper Coin’s workflow by centralizing monitoring activities in one platform. With features like embeds seamlessly integrated into their existing infrastructure, they could efficiently track site status without disrupting their workflow.
  4. Proactive Response: Armed with StatusGator’s insights, Rock Paper Coin adopted a proactive approach to addressing site issues.
