Brightcove Infrastructure Quarterly Scheduled Maintenance – February 25th, 2024

Details

Brightcove Engineering will perform scheduled maintenance tasks to Brightcove platform infrastructure on Sunday, February 25th, 2024, from 12:00 AM until 8:00 AM UTC

There are three primary criteria selected as the basis for the upcoming maintenance effort:

1. Brightcove Studio
Brightcove Engineering will deploy changes and improvements to Brightcove's Video Cloud Studio and Beacon Studio.
Customers attempting to log in, to navigate, or perform tasks within our Studio UI may be temporarily redirected to an error page for the first 30 minutes of the maintenance window, requiring a retry of the desired action or operation.

2. Brightcove Live
To provide continued secure, stable, and efficient live streaming experiences, Brightcove's Live Engineering Team will perform maintenance-related tasks on select Brightcove Live jobs.

• Brightcove Live stream(s) activated before January 26th, 2024, without reactivation since, will be disconnected and redirected to new streaming workers updated with the latest security patches. Live streams subject to maintenance may be down for up to ten minutes, but likely much shorter. Brightcove Live streams created, started, or reactivated since January 26th, 2024, will be unaffected by this effort.

The intended updates include fixes for security vulnerabilities.

In order to minimize any impact and/or downtime, it is recommended that customers with Brightcove Live streams in the aforementioned category deactivate and reactivate the associated Live job(s) before the upcoming February 25th (UTC) window. If electing to perform this task, it is also recommended that customers confirm reconnection of the associated encoder(s) to ensure continued streaming activity thereafter. Customers can and are encouraged to perform the task(s) at a time of their choosing, which will move the stream(s) in question to the most up-to-date systems and workers.

• Secondly, Brightcove Engineering will archive static entry point (SEP)-connected Brightcove Live jobs that have remained idle, unused, or inactive since November 26, 2022 —i.e. approximately 14 months.

Any SEP-connected Live jobs in the aforementioned category still required by customers can be reactivated at any time prior to the February 25th (UTC) window, which will automatically remove that job from the maintenance effort.

This component of the maintenance effort is a measure to enhance overall platform efficiency.

3. Cloud Playout
Cloud Playout Engineering will be performing a major version upgrade on the main database cluster.
Between 5:00 AM and 6:00 AM UTC on February 25th, attempts to create, modify, start-stop channels, as well as fetching the channel details may fail.
Channels scheduled to start/stop during this period will not work as expected,
We don’t expect any playback issues on channels that are already running. However, we will monitor system stability and activity during the aforementioned window and have available resources on standby to mitigate any significant interruptions.
